Every now and then, a Facebook post catches my attention and makes me go, WOW! Why didn’t I think of that?! In this case, Jason Sadler’s post on National Pi Day, did just that. Take a look….
“If this status gets to 314 Likes (in honor of National Pi Day) by midnight EST I’m going to donate an IWYS day on my calendar to one lucky Like-r. And…. GO!” March 14, 4:38 pm ET
What makes this one a WOWser?
1. Urgent. Jason creates a sense of urgency by using a quirky “holiday”. There is a definite end time to this “event.”
2. Fun. People would want to share this post to help him reach his goal. That is how I found it. It was shared by Suzanne Chace in one of my Facebook groups. Also, the day itself, Pi Day, adds an element of fun.
3. Promotional – in a tasteful, intriguing way. I don’t even know what an IWYS day is at this point. However, this post definitely makes me want to find out.
4. Engaging. Jason did a fabulous job of “checking in” on the post as people commented. He told them the count and kept them interested. He kept the excitement going.
The only thing that could have been better is if he had started earlier in the day. Getting 200+ likes on a post is pretty incredible. Still, he probably would have easily exceeded his 314 goal if he had started a little earlier.
Excellent job, Jason. Thanks for the introduction, Suzanne Chace.
