I’m in the middle in pink, 40 pounds heavier! So grateful for my class mates and the class leaders.
It was the end of August in 2014 and I was miserable. I was bumping up against my all time high in my weight. I had no energy. I hated my pictures on Facebook. I hated flying because it was so hard to fit in those tiny airplane seats. Argh!
I knew that I needed a huge change.
I needed to focus on my health. First step: drop a lot of excess weight.
That is when I attended my first P90X/insanity class at the local YMCA. This was the first step in reclaiming my health. I got “addicted” to the class, attending almost every class for a year – M-Fs at 5:15 and Saturdays at 7 am.
Yes, it was hard to do. But, it was worth it. I got in shape. Pushed myself beyond my comfort zone. Lost a lot of weight. Made a lot of new friends.
I want to say thanks to many of you from the “Fit Club” for being such an important part of my journey:
Andrew Highsmith – for being such a talented leader that inspired me to get myself to the gym for almost every class you held for over a year!
Paula Shepherd – for greeting me that very first day and saying just the right words that convinced me to do something crazy like consider adding a 5:30 am (the old time) class to my schedule, for becoming my friend and introducing me to Beachbody. I do BeachbodyOnDemand video training at home and on the road often. It’s not as good as being “live at the Y,” but it helps.
Richard Smith – for becoming my “juicing buddy.” I lost more than 30 pounds from juicing and Rick was there to bounce ideas off and support me in my juicing FB groups.
Pam Jantomaso – for being my “in the gym” buddy for many months.
Charles Parker and Marsha Kay Flaherty for so many laughs.
Chantal Gakwaya, the Jenns, Rod, TJ, Dan Walters, Elle Gamarra, Mary Ellen Starnes, Franz Budel, Fernando Lozano and so many others for encouragement, friendship and support.
Since that first day, I have lost over 40 pounds and have turned my health around for the better. My conversion to plant-based eating, juicing, and the members of the Y “Fit Club” have helped me along the way.
Due primarily to my travel schedule, I haven’t been attending the class for quite a while. However, I continue to exercise in some way most every day.
What do you do to keep in shape? Do you walk/run/bike/swim/lift? Attend an exercise class?
